On this week’s Top Album Sales chart, Billboard’s look at which titles actually sold the most copies (as opposed to the more closely watched Billboard 200, which paints a picture of which releases are the “most consumed” including streams and other forms of consumption), Seventeen debuts their new short set Your Choice at №1. The latest EP from the South Korean all-male vocal band is their first to place on the sales-only ranking, and by opening as high as a project can climb, it has helped the group (and all acts from their home country) make history.

Seventeen is now the fifth boy band (or male vocal band, depending on which term is preferred) from South Korea to score a №1 bestselling album in America. Your Choice opens in first place with just under 20,500 copies sold (according to MRC Data), which is a healthy sum in today’s all-streaming industry.

Among all South Korean boy bands, BTS stand out as far and away the most successful act on the Top Album Sales chart. The septet has now collected 10 total placements, including eight top 10s and five №1s. They have conquered the list with their releases Love Yourself: Tear, Love Yourself: Answer, Map Of The Soul: Persona, Map of the Soul: 7 and most recently, Be.

Three other boy bands who hail from South Korea have not only managed to hit №1 on the Top Album Sales chart, they’ve done so twice. In fact, Seventeen is now the only act that fits that description to only reach the summit once.

NCT 127 joined BTS as the second South Korean musical act of any kind to rise to №1 on the Top Album Sales chart back in 2019 with their set We Are Superhuman, and they repeated the feat the following year with Neo Zone. A few months after they scored a historic win on the Top Album Sales ranking, SuperM did the same with their self-titled debut EP. The super group then returned to №1 with Super One.

Last week, Tomorrow X Together became the fourth South Korean boy band to land a pair of chart-toppers when their new set The Chaos Chapter: Freeze opened in first place. Late last year, they scored their debut champion with Minisode1: Blue Hour.

In addition to these five boy bands, just two other South Korean musical acts have grabbed a №1 bestselling album in the U.S., as both Blackpink and TWICE, groups made up of only women, have also accomplished this incredible feat.
